Engaging Girls

For the first time, I was around people who shared my curiosity and determination. It was interesting, too, because a lot of people have a stereotype of a scientist, and we completely broke that stereotype. We had artists there. I'm into sports. We were really so diverse, and the love of science drew us together. Science can be a very creative pursuit. That's why I love it.

(Helen Wiersma, Finalist Intel Science Talent Search, 1999)
