Students Invited to Explore Hands-On Science at Sally Ride Science Festival at Towson University

(San Diego, CA) - What is it like to search for life on other planets or to build your DNA into a bracelet? Local girls will learn the answers to these questions and more as they dig into hands-on science at the Sally Ride Science Festival on May 10 at the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics at Towson University in Towson, Md. The festival, which is open to the public and runs from 11 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., is presented by Sally Ride Science™, an innovative science content company dedicated to fueling students’ interests in science, math and technology.

The Sally Ride Science Festival at Towson University will bring together hundreds of upper elementary and middle school girls, parents and teachers for a day of science and socializing. The festival features discovery workshops for students given by local scientists and engineers, and workshops for parents and teachers on ways to support students' interests in science and math. A highlight of the festival is an inspiring talk by cosmochemist Laurie Leshin, who serves as the director of sciences and exploration at the Goddard Space Flight Center and leads the largest science organization within NASA. The festival also includes a street fair with hands-on activities, booths, food and music.

The cost is $18 and advance registration is required. The registration fee includes the featured talk, workshops, lunch and the street fair. The festival is created and run by Sally Ride Science. Northrop Grumman is the presenting sponsor.
